If you could have one piece of exercise equipment in your home, what would it be?

March 82010

What could you absolutely not live without?

A pull-up bar. It’s amazing what you can do with your own bodyweight.

I never cease to be amazed at people who spend hours on a treadmill or stairmaster, yet they never actually walk anywhere and always take the elevator.

what home gym machine could subsidise for a rowing machine?

March 82010

i am a rower and i cannot buy a rowing machine due to space limitation. i am wondering if i should by an exercise bike or any other type of gym equipment costing around £300. the machine would have to concentrate on thigh muscles and it would be good if it could excercise my arms, back and abs aswell.

I had a Bowflex that had a seated row attachment with a sliding seat, mimicking a rowing machine. It folded up, too, so it didn’t take up a whole lot of space when I wasn’t using it. Check ebay for used Bowflex Ultimate machines- you can probably pick one up for about $5-700 or so. Check out Bowflex’s website, www.bowflex.com. Personally, though, I’d go with a good exercise bike (or bicycle) for cardio, and some free weights for strength exercises (if you have the room).

Home Gym Equipment (Suggestions)?

March 82010

I am thinking of purchasing home gym equipment. One machine (preferably) that would work all the muscle groups (particularly arms and tummy) and something that could easily be stored away in a cupboard or under a bed.

Can anyone recommended a name brand / type?. I’m fairly new to this and the choice out there is overwhelming.

I would try a body ball and yoga and pilates videos. You don’t have to buy tons of equipment because these can give you the same tone through resistance.

how much would a high resistance row machine cost?

March 82010

i heard i can get a cheap row machine, for like 160$. but common sense tells me that it won’t be anywhere near gym quality, as i’m pretty sure the row machines at the gym are probably 1,000+. i’m looking for one with some high resistance, and durability. and that’s pretty much it.

so if any body out there knows anything about row machines or home fitness equipment that could help me out, i would appreciate it. thank you if you can.

craig’s list! you might find one for $50 – 200, it depends. also check ebay.

Vibration Fitness Machines?

March 82010

A friend of mine has started using a Power Plate and has been ranting and raving about the incredible results. And it’s true, she has used it 5 times and I have felt the difference in her biceps. Has anybody used one long-term and can you vouch for their effectiveness especially re. abs and bum?

how much did she dish out for it, i just bought one for about $250 (USD) and thats including shipping and the extended warranty. i haven’t gotten it yet though so i cant answer your question

What is the name of that major fitness equipment expo? It is an acronym: URSA or URSULA or something?

March 82010

I’m not sure what the entire event encompasses, but I heard it at least includes strength training gym equipment.

I couldn’t find anything beginning with the letter "U" in Acronym Finder or on the web.

Could you be thinking of NIRSA – National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association? They do have a big expo (see links below)

Is it better to join a gym or set up some gear at home?

March 82010

Ive been latley thinking about joining a gym, which could end up costing around $50-$60 a month but have a near empty garage at home, and have seen some cheap second hand weight benches and home gyms. any ideas on which is worth it more?? i cant decide.

,,\/(’_')

I personally do better at a gym. If I set up things at home I just look at them a think that I’ll get to them letter. With a gym membership, I have somewhere to be. It’s a part of the routine. You see people you know. Plus, your paying for it monthly so that is motivation in itself. I am also more motivated if I belong to a really nice gym. It’s more inviting and makes you ant to go there more.

Weight chart for weider home gym 4250 where can i find it?

I am needing the chart or diagram that tells you how to measure the weights on a weider home gym model 4250. The chart that tells you how to break down the pounds, my weights dont have measurments on them.

Here you go, it is on page 25. Save to disk, print it or something, it is very useful to have if you decide to sell the system or need spare parts, it is the user’s manual. Keep the weight guides lubricated with vaseline.

What’s your favorite piece of exercise equipment?

March 82010

I’m looking for a good piece of exercise equipment to tone the mid-lower body. The areas I want to work on are the stomach, butt, hips, and thighs.

Just curious as to what would be good for this and what your favorite type of equipment is and why.

Thanks

Eliptical all the way. I would have a different opinion for a man. A man really should go for a bowflex…which is also great for women(dont get the knock off) It must be a bowflex.Oh and if you get an eliptical get the one w/ handles that take your bpm and an adjustable incline. I love mine, I am now able to burn about 280 cals in a half-hour-and still getting better.
