What’s the best home exercise equipment I can buy for under $500?

December 312009

Preferably under $200 but that might be dreaming.

I’m pretty happy with my Gazelle. Depending on your weight (we had to buy the more expensive one because I weigh too much for the WalMart version) they can be had for about $189 to $200 in WalMart and KMart. Good aerobic exercise, too.

best choice for home gym equipment?

December 312009

I want to get something for using at home and would like to know which piece of equipment would give the best all-round workout – rowing machine or exercise bike, or something else?
It has to be not too big, and available at no more than £200

thanks!
FYI – its not that i need to lose weight, I just want to be able to do some cardio in the house – as it is where i spend most of my time!

I have fitness dvd’s already, but want a bit of equipment too!

Get an exercise DVD — fits in a small space and you use your body weight for the resistance.

Try Beach Body — works for me. (The one draw back is Debbie on the video has terrible English grammar. For example, "put your arms *acrosst* your body".)

I want to buy a single piece of home gym equipment but dont have a lot of space for it?

December 312009

Can anyone suggest something that is very small but very effective (mainly for cardio but would like something that also increases strength.)

A lot of people have exercise bikes and treadmills.

I love my fitness ball – good for the core and you can squat for your thighs. It’s super cheap too.

Another great idea is jack lalanne’s exercises. My dad used them and lost over 60 pounds, and the best part is that you already have the equipment! All you need is a chair and a towel.

Check out this article " how to be healthy naturally" , step 8 and 9, for some in-home exercises and also some links to those I mentioned:

If you had to buy one piece of fitness equipment for home use which one would it be?

December 312009

I am not familiar with being fit or getting fit. I just want to buy one piece of equipment that will provide a good aerobic workout and possibly one piece that I can use for strengthening. Oh yes – trying to lose weight!

Well done for making the decision to improve your health a bit.
If I can be absolutely honest if you want to improve your fitness
There are 2 essential items
1. Proper FITTED running shoes, slow jogging combined with walking burns fat better than ANY other exercise. Forget pointless home health equipment, it’s just rubbish
2. A notebook to record both your progress and your diet (eat better and exercise more weight falls off, it’s that simple)

Start slowly and set yourself a series of realistic short term goals (eg run for 2 mins or run 1 mile or whatever) try to improve just a little each time but accept that sometimes you have a bad day.

Record ONE long term goal (run 10K perhaps)

Exercise is daunting at first but as soon as you experience the endorphines and begin to see improvements in your notebook and within yourself I’m sure you’ll love the confidence it gives you

Good luck and sorry if I’m going on a bit, I’m just quite passionate about helping people get fit. Let me know if I can help at all

I know most of them are in the basement, but is it unusal to find one in the attic?

It’s probably unusual to find one in the attic, mostly because they are heavy and hard to move, generally. However, you might find one stored in an attic.

Do you know of any home gym (weight system) that is made out rust-free material or is rust-resistant?

How do i get a good upper body workout without exercise equipment?

December 312009

I need a work out to work my abs, and arms most importantly, and also my chest. i have been doing lots of sit ups and diamond/wide stance/ knuckle push ups. i have no clue what im doing and i dont have any exercise equipment. any ideas? please dont respond with "cough up the dough" or "join a gym"

You are already doing the right things. You could also use objects around your house as weights, such as water bottles, milk gallons, etc, so you can add some chest, bicep and tricep exercises. You can do tricep dips on a chair or sofa. You can do tons of ab exercises on your own. I would recommend looking for a website that demonstrates how to do these exercises properly, and also to make sure you are using the proper form.
