What do you think of buying exercise equipment for home use?

Is it more effective for you than going to the gym or a jog or what?

In the long run, it is less expensive to invest in your own equipment as long as you maintain it. A lot of the exercises, however, can be done without purchasing expensive equipment. In my opinion, it seems the ones who don’t know better will purchase the equipment and those are the ones who tend to fail at the objective of getting in shape and building the mass they want and will turn their equipment into an expensive clothes rack. A good set of dumbells and some weight plates, a curling bar, a cheap multipurpose bench with a barbell, and a pull up bar is really all one needs to workout effectively. As for the cardio aspect, you really don’t need a treadmill or the exercise bike. All those can be done by going outside. Sure, if you are in a region that gets snow, it may suck to go outside, but once you get moving, you won’t feel the cold.

Opinions-what’s the best home exercise equipment to invest in?

From your experience? Such as…the gazelle, a treadmill, elliptical, bike, just when I’m not in the mood to go to the gym and for the winter months.

treadmill, or elliptical. They both provide complete workouts, and target all major leg muscles. I like ellipticals better, since they are easier on my knees.
Even better, get an elliptical with handles (cross-trainer) or a nordic-ski machine, and you’ll get a complete workout. The gazelle is not stable enough, so it’ll need to be tightened often, and I don’t really care for bikes since they don’t target my butt. However, if more than one person will be working out, bikes or treadmills are the best, since they are the sturdiest, and guys sometimes feel weird using ellipticals b/c of the angle of motion. Bikes require the least amount of fixing, they break very rarely, and they last the longest.

So, if it’s just for you, I’d suggest a cross-trainer or an elliptical, but make sure you read the instructions to know how to fix it if it breaks.
If you’re going to use it a lot, and don’t want to invest in repairs, get a bike, since they are the sturdiest.
Also, invest in a yoga mat (or just get a thicker old towel) to do sit-ups on, and get some free weights for toning exercises You can get a complete set with various weights for less than $50 in most stores.

What is the best home gym equipment?

January 312010

I need something that dont cost way to much and that will maximize weight lost

A pair of good shoes. Cardiovascular exercises like running, walking, swimming, and biking are the most efficient way to burn calories which in turn causes fat loss.

If you want strength training equipment the most cost efficient items are dumbbells and an exercise ball. People don’t need a huge machine to get a good workout. Their are so many exercises to do just with your own bodyweight, but having a pair or two of dumbbells and an exercise ball multiplies your options.

Good luck to you and stay motivated!

Need advice for working out at home? What equipment do I need to buy? ?

January 312010

Hey all,

I am a 26 yr old man. I am 5"7 (173 cms) and I weigh 67 kg’s (147 pounds approx.) I plan to start working out from home. Please suggest the most useful fitness equipment I should buy. I am not looking at becoming Schwarzenegger II. Just a lean athletic bod is good enough for me.

P.S. Looking at buying equipment for home. Cannot afford a ’station’.

Well, it doesn’t have to cost almost anything!

Weights
Fill a small, medium and large bottles of water as a set of dumbbells. Large heavy books can do the trick too.

Jump Rope – This is excellent to improve stamina and make your heart healthier. Professional boxers use the jump rope to keep fit, so this is not for any 5yr old girls!

Jogging round your area is free too, as well as cycling.

Dancing to some music in the comfort of your own home is fun as well as a good workout. Blast your favorite tracks and come up with your own dance routine. Don’t be scared too!

A Lateral Thigh Trainer (or cheaper ones of a different brand, see ebay.com) is a great overall workout. You can (if you look around enough) get them for around $50.

I’m sure of that there are some fitness books around that have ideas on what workouts you can do at home with little or no Equipment.

A gym ball is a very hand piece of kit for as little as $15 which works out your core.

Finally, check online for instance google.com and search ‘Free online workouts’ which should show you different exercises to do with no/few Equipment.

Why do people spend silly money on fitness machines,When walking and running are as good if not better for you

January 312010

Because sometimes when it’s -30′Celcius, with a windchill of -45′Celcius, it’s not safe to be outside walking or running because your skin will freeze in less than a minute… also you can’t breathe very well with the scarf and hood.. and you’re bulky with all the winter gear that you have to wear…. I would love to have a treadmill in my house! I wouldn’t have to travel to the gym.. in the cold (I have to walk to the train (20minute walk) and then walk to the gym from the stop… it’s COLD and I wear a parka and snowpants.. and fur hat, mitts and a scarf!!!)). I guess it’s mostly convenience!!

Cheers!

What kind of fitness equipment do I need to turn my one bed-room apartment into a gym?

January 312010

weights bar-bells dum-bells benches or other equipment. If there’s any thing I forgotten feel free to let me know?

By a multigym and some barbells, dumbells and bench press bench just like the one the guy said before me. The reason why is because it it good to combine free weight and machine exercises because to train your muscle you need some machines like for legs you cant do leg curls or leg extensions with dumbells or barbells and for some body parts do not probably need any machines like for chest, shoulders and biceps you mostly need barbells and dumbells for doing chest presses, shoulder presses and bicep curls etc. For your cardio you need either treadmill, eliptical strider or a bike and if you dont have any room then you could try doing cardio by going for a run outdoors instead of buying more cardio equipment.

Hope this works.

If you mean will it work, yes it’s the same as any other workout routine. If you stick to it you’ll see results, if you don’t stick to it you won’t.

There are so many Choices for a home gym, what do others recommend?

I am looking for a home gym. I went to a sporting goods store and there were so many choices. There was also a wide range of prices.

a home gym is great for maybe the first month, then it becomes a clothes horse

Its hard work training on your own, there is no motivation, no one to talk to, no chicks or guys to talk to, no one to help when you over load the bench press or the squat bar

A gym can offer MORE than a home gym could ever hope to and you can finish a gym subscription any time, BUT with a home gym, when you get bored with it, you are stuck with it and have to sell it or store it, either way, you will lose money on it

Join a gym, they can be social places as well as a place to work out AND there are better blokes and chicks to look at than your own reflection

Which exercise equipment is better for weight loss, the treadmill or elliptical?

January 312010

Just had a baby a few weeks ago and am looking into buying an exercise equipment. Not sure which of the two is better for toning up the entire body (abs and legs primarily).

Elleptical’s advantage is that it’s without shocks on the joints and will help for people who are really overweight or suffer from arthritis. For normal people, threadmill allows a more natural movement and will cause less fatigue.
