Which is better crunches/sit-ups with gym equipment or just your normal on the floor method?

So I have done my share of crunches and sit-ups on the floor and it usually hurts my back and takes at least 20 reps to feel it.
I just gym equipment today for the first time with a lil over 50lbs and felt it right away.
My back still hurt but I’m wondering which is a better workout for my abs.
So which is better?
Well everyday when i came home i used to do 500 crunches and in a week i had abs, so i say the at home method works just fine.

In my opinion, gym equipment does work but it is just as good as my stay-at-home-on-the-floor method. I have discovered a good ab workout where all I do is lay on my back with my arms spread out, airplane style. I raise my legs up to the ceiling and slowly (very slowly) bring them down to the floor. When my legs are an inch or two from the ground, I hold them out in position for a few minutes. Since doing this exercise this summer, I have went down about four pant sizes.

one piece of gym equipment that i use at the gym and at home is an exercise ball and i usually do my sit ups/crunches on that instead as it puts less pressure on your back and also works your abs through a greater range and works more muscle fibres in the process. so i’d suggest trying that out instead. i do 4 sets of 12 reps of crunches on the ball usually with a 20kg weight plate across my chest but i wouldn’t suggest the weight plate lol, until your abs are strong enough.
good luck, hope this helps
