In order to get wider, work your shoulders and your back. Get some dumbells and some gloves. The gloves will spare your hands so that you will be able to lift heavier weights. Do bent-over rows like this:
http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/BackGeneral/DBBentOverRow.html
using a chair. This will give your back some width. Do not arch your back.

Basic pushups, with a variety of hand positions, will help your chest and arms. If you have access, do some dumbell bench presses. Try chair dips.

And the other half of the equation is to eat a lot of protein. Preferrably whey, preferrably in the morning. I like 'Muscle Milk.'
References :
experience.

Seriously, there's nothing you can do. I'm 20 and I'm 5'8" and just really lean. I have more muscle than fat. It depends on your metabolism. No matter how much you eat, you won't gain weight because it'll get burned up by your fast metabolism. All you can do it eat a lot of red meat and work out. You'll gain muscle and get lean, but you won't pack on pounds. It's strange, I know..
